Dennis Miller -vs- Harry Reid!

HT to Chic[k] Pilot...

Great take from Dennis on the position (bent over) that Harry Reid the, oxymoronically named Senate Majority "Leader?" takes relating to US Foreign Policy our enemy's best interests.

The great thing about Dennis is that he is pretty much the Anti-Bush when it comes to his eloquence and vocabulary.  Nice to see someone in the media with the ability to form contextual analogy into accurate assessments of the clownfest we call the US Senate!

Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk

I interrupt my normal Posting Activities to post an Open Letter from my Sister, Kelly Brustman.

For those of you who don't know my sister, you'reKelly missing out!  She's one cool chick!  (Oh sure, growing up, you couldn't torture those words out of me!!!) But now that I've seen the light, not of the bare bulb, let me tell you, Kelly is easily one of the most Fun-loving, adventurous, generous, and openly caring people you will ever have the fortune to meet, and more importantly she's here with us!  That's right, my sister is a cancer survivor, and we're all glad she has now been 10 years cancer free!

Kelly is here today thanks to the efforts made in cancer research and excellent medical advances!  We are all thankful.   Kelly especially!  And now she would like to pass on her good fortune with a little help from her friends.  That'd be US!

Here's the scoop from My Sister:

Dear Friends and Family,

On May 30, 2007, I celebrated an anniversary; 10 years since cancer was removed from my body. In February 2007, my friend, Betsy, asked if I would walk 60 miles with her in the Breast Cancer 3-Day event October 12-14 in Atlanta, Georgia. She has had breast cancer this past year and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation has helped her financially in this battle. She said that she would like to give something back. I said I would begin training and walk beside her every step of the way in the 3-Day and the journey beyond. Betsy has a wonderful husband, Shawn, and 3 very wonderful children, Luke (10), Hannah (9) and Joseph (5).

So, these are some of the reasons I walk:

  • Because I can . . . I’m alive and well 10 years later.
  • Because I want to contribute to the the cause . . . A CURE for Breast Cancer
  • Because I want to honor those strong women in my life who have lived inspiring lives and fought the fight against cancer gallantly. and ...
  • Because I want to honor those I dearly miss in my life. . . I have lost 3 aunts, 3 uncles, and 3 close friends to cancer and disease in the past 5 years.

Although I did not have breast cancer, I believe that research done to find a cure for breast cancer benefits us all and the strides made in finding a cure in one type of cancer will surely benefit many if not all types of cancer.

So, please join me in Celebration for lives fully lived. It is with a grateful heart and much hope and encouragement that I prepare to walk this walk.

I must raise $2200 in order to participate. I hope to raise much more. I invite you to support me and join the global movement to end breast cancer forever.

Thank you so much.

Sincerely,
Kelly Brustman

Thanks for your support!

Lies... Damn Lies... and Gallup Polls!

Can someone clear up a nagging little fact here?

According to Editor and Publisher,

Gallup is reporting that 7 out of 10 Americans Say Economy is Getting Worse...

That's 70% folks!!!! Holy COW!!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!! JEEEZZZ  OH FATHER... WHO ART IN HEAVEN!!!!.... YEA, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH... I WILL FEAR NO EVIL... FOR THOU ART WITH ME....

Wait..., or might I be over-reacting a bit?  Let's crunch some numbers shall we.

The poll was taken of 1,007 participants!  Yep, not a typo, 1,007.  So pulling out the ol' #2 pencil... 70% of 1,007 is... emm... uhhh... carry the.... yeah that's it.

704.9 people!  I'll round up even...Let's call it 705!  So the reality is that 705 people say the Economy is getting worse.  That may be a fact.  I'll even accept that at face value!  BUT!... at last count there are:

301,139,947 Americans!!!

So from an absolute standpoint, using the known opinion of 705 peoples... we're looking at...  emmm... errr... carry the... ok!

0.00023411042176 PERCENT! Of the American Public thinks the Economy is in the Tank!  In English that's "Two Ten-thousandths of a percent!" of the American Public think the Economy is in the Tank.

That's a known opinion of roughly 1 out of 425,000 people!

So shouldn't it read,

"1 out of 425,000 Americans think the economy is getting worse?"

                                   Or

"We don't have a clue what 424,999 out of 425,000 Americans think about the economy!"

Hmm, I wonder which Stat the News will get a hold of and misreport to support an agenda?

No, really folks, they took a representative sampling of only 3 ten thousandths of a percent of the American Public and they have the Cajone's to make a generalization of 7 in 10 Americans said, or believe the SKY IS FALLING!!!

Watch your wallets folks!  I smell a RAT!

Flight Tracking Technology

I continue to be amazed at our uses of Technology.

Yeah, I work for a company that is indeed on the cutting edge of information delivery, and I do indeed find our products (NewsGator, FeedDemon, InBox, NewsGator Go, etc...) extremely useful in pulling in and efficiently rendering information at the locations I want.  Great!  I use it every day!

But, this post is not to advertise my company's products (as useful as they are).  More I realized how far we have come in the modern "Immediate Access" age we now live in.

A couple of tasks I accomplished this evening illustrated this to me.

  • First, I am picking a friend of mine up at Denver International Airport (DIA) this evening. Note that in an effort to avoid noise complaints (that is until everyone moves close to it... then, duh, complains!) and to allow continuous landings, Denver has the foresight to place their SUPER HUGE Airport out in the middle of nowhere... Yeah kinda like Kansas.  It's some 45 minutes (without traffic) from my house.  So it is important that I have accurate arrival information on my buddy's Trackingflight so I don't end up out in the boonies waiting for hours for his flight to arrive.  I turned to this cool site!  http://flightaware.com/ .  Once I put in my friend's flight information not only was I provided with his REALTIME flight status, and anticipated arrival time (3 hours late) but I was also provided with a Map of his current location, Tracking2

airspeed and altitude!  It also rendered the weather that Ken was having to fly around, adding to his delay... Very Cool!

  • And the second Technological advancement is Amazon.com!  The world's best invention for we procrastinators when occasions like "Mother's Day" and "Father's Day" are nigh!  No I won't divulge what I purchased for my dear Pops, let's just say well... It damn well wasn't the SNJ!

Looks Like I'm Only $165,000 Short!

So, I saw the coolest SNJ this past weekend at the Jeffco open house...

Yeah this one! [Video of it Taxiing Here]

IMG_1870 snj2SNJ

Come to find out... It's for sale!  I'm thinking "Man what a cool Father's Day gift to give my Dad!"  After all, some of his initial flight training was in the SNJ!  And now with a career of some 5,000 flight hours flying everything from SNJ's to A-6's, A-4's, A-7's and a Phantom or 2, behind him, I'm sure he'd love to own one these treasures.

But alas... After checking out the details, the bird is available for $165,000... I'm a little short.

But it sure was fun to daydream a little about the fun Dad and I could have flying in this beauty...

Ah well... Anyone know the winning lottery numbers?

Jeffco Airport Open House

I went to the Jeffco Airport (now Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport) For their Open House.

For Aviation Geeks like me these are great opportunities to go see flying machines in a bit of a more intimate environment.  Plenty of cool planes to watch:

  • B-25 Mitchell
  • de Havilland Vampire
  • TBM
  • T-33 Decked out in Thunderbird colors
  • SNJ (Navy Denver)
  • P-51
  • And a B-2 Fly-by

All good stuff!  Here's some of the pics... More are (as always) up over at my smug mug account [LINK].

Paris Hilton Headed Back to Jail!

This Just in!

"Judge Orders Paris Hilton Back to Jail"

LOS ANGELES (AP) - ... A judge has ordered Paris Hilton returned to jail and she was taken from court screaming.

Yep, I'm thinking I like this Judge!

Paris On Thursday, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered that Hilton be brought to Friday's hearing. But early Friday a court spokesman announced that she would be allowed to participate by telephone, which is common in misdemeanor cases. Then, in a reversal, the spokesman said the judge had ordered the Sheriff's Department to pick her up and bring her to court.

I do not wish any ill will toward Paris... I just want her to have to experience some consequences for her contemptuous actions.

Nuff Said...

Well, That Didn't Take Long!

Paris Hilton is already out of Jail after serving what??? 5 Days of her 45 day sentence?  A while ago I wrote a post about my beginning to have a little faith in the Justice being served with Paris' arrest for her contempt of the system.

My fragile faith as of today was indeed broken...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Thursday because of an unspecified medical problem and will fulfill the remainder of her sentence in home confinement, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress was sent home shortly after 2 a.m. fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. She had spent five days at the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Los Angeles for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

"I can't specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that, yes, it played a part in this," said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Medical condition huh?... I wonder which one of her "Pop-Culture" addictions got her off this time?  Whaaaaangh!

Here's the quote that will really get ya...

Hilton's lawyer, Richard A. Hutton, said Monday after his client's first night in jail that she was doing well under the circumstances.

"She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Hutton said after visiting Hilton.

Wow... Good thing she's serious about turning her life around.  PaaaLLLLeeeeeZZZZZZ!  Pull this leg... it plays Jingle Bells!!!  Yeah, treatment like this sure will go far to change people's attitude toward poor unfortunate Paris, good luck with that!

Seriously!  It is high time we treat Hollywood Actors, Sports Figures, Politicians, and others of that ilk, who happen to have chosen a different career than the: Engineers, Sales Execs, Programmers, Construction Workers, Waiters, and Plumbers... with a blind eye toward their chosen profession, but with eyes WIDE OPEN to their CHOSEN crime!!!  It is high time we begin to enforce personal accountability no matter what silver spoon is in your mouth!
