The Self Licking Ice Cream Cone

I was watching an interview with Florida 22nd Congressional Candidate Lt. Col. Allen West taped a few months back, where he hit upon one of the many principals I hold true as a conservative.

“… I don’t believe in the ‘Entitlement Class’, I don’t believe in enslaving the American people, I believe in the American people being empowered…

…The number one thing we have to reestablish in our culture is a sense of individual responsibility and accountability.  I’m tired of victimization.  In the military we call it the ‘Self Licking Ice Cream Cone’.  Because the government creates victims, and victims then become wedded to the government, dependant upon the government.  Government grows, because it has to provide the entitlements to them.  So we have to get away from that!”

His entire interview is a good interview outlining his stance on a number of pressing issues.  He taps into may 3rd rail issues and addresses them head-on, thoughtfully and responsibly, I recommend watching.

In my mind, Shirley Sherrod is owed an apology

I watched the entire video of Shirley Sherrod, the then State Director, USDA Rural Development, where a few minute clip was excerpted and paraded as an example of racism in the NAACP.  (For those of you who would like to be your own judge I have included it below.)

I watched the whole thing, and while I do not entirely agree with her method of presentation, choosing to demonize Republicans (and of course the Bush Administration) in our “treatment” of Blacks and the Poor… I do understand the message she was trying to get across to a focus group audience.

She was using her previous philosophical belief that “It was all about Black Folk” as a foundation to her revealing she grew to understand that it is a different bias, and bigotry if you will, one of the “Rich against the Poor” (not a hypothesis I agree with btw) that is the culprit of inequity in America.  Her words, that fed the fire of condemnation, were indeed taken out of context and not an accurate portrayal of her intended message. She continued to lecture on a more “Class-Envy” model rather than a strict focus on a racial model of injustice.  Yes she obliquely acknowledged that the White Republican = Rich and the Democrat Black = Poor, but she left that direct connection to the viewer’s conjecture more than explicitly stating it.

Should she be held up as the Poster Child of racism prevalent in organizations like the NAACP?  No!  However there may be a case to be made about the NACCP attendees in the audience, who, not knowing where she was headed in her story, were applauding her treatment of the “White Farmer” because of his race. There are far more prevalent cases of Race-Baiting-Victimization-Claiming charlatans in whatever organization you want to focus on than this woman.

Look, “Racism” has become the knee-jerk word of assault lately…

  • Don’t like a Tea-Party Member voicing his/her opinion about too much government involvement in our life? Call her a Racist!
  • Don’t like the NRA protecting Second Amendment rights?  Call  him a Racist!
  • Don’t like people making the argument that individuals comprise our Union… not Races, Social Classes, Elitists, Academics…  Call me a Racist!
  • Don’t like people wanting to secure a sovereign border?  And enforcing immigration laws?…  Racist!
  • Don’t agree with Americans who would like proof you are who you say you are when casting a vote?… Racist!
  • And finally, someone who disagrees with the policies, methods, and political philosophy of the current administration… RACIST!

It needs to stop, else it WILL lose it’s impact and worth in our lexicon.

I have every right to judge a person on their own character, morality, conviction, dedication, and devotion… I do not make these judgments based on the color of one’s skin!  I admire many people, many are white!  Many are Black! Many are Hispanic!  And many are Asian!  Usually I admire these people based on their character and their willingness to empower those around them through sharing their wisdom, while leading by example.

And yes, I have complete distain for many people as well!  They too cover the gambit of skin color!

In my mind, Racism is focusing on providing preferential treatment, or denying opportunity to an individual based on the color of that person’s skin.  I do not buy into the concept that racism has to be based on institutionalized power, and that only a minority group can be the victim of racism.

Back to Ms. Sherrod’s comment about her own prism of racism she viewed a “White, Patronizing" farmer.  Her message, while not complete (as she finds another “classification” to justify victimization) is illustrative of the fact that YES! A Back Woman can apply racism in her own determination of justice.  She makes a fine point in stating that that is WRONG!

And many who may have jumped, wantonly, to accuse an organization like the NAACP of a double standard and use Ms. Sherrod’s words as a flag to march behind, owe her an apology.  I think she proved a point more than she’ll ever know, that “Racism” is evil and disserving our union, and we need to stop accusing each other without cause, or comprehension.

I did note however a sizable use of the word “They”, implying an automatic inequity, I guess to be a victim one has to have an assailant.

Btw, It’s not the rich against the poor either… it is the selfish against the generous… of heart, mind, spirit, and character.  It is Envy, Pride, Wrath, Greed, Lust, Sloth, and Gluttony that are our enemies, each of them internal!  Empower the person next to you to achieve their own goals through their own efforts.  Make determinations for them, and you cripple them for life!

Question Authority

Stealing from the Liberal-Socialist-Commie mantra chanted regularly at every Anti-[insert your favorite Republican Administration here] rally…

We need to “Question Authority” a bit more when it comes to data, and articles used to advance a cause.  In this world where everything seems presented from a political stance, including science, we need, now more than ever, a stable set of data-points.

Many may have seen this article Posted today in most Media outlets:

NOAA: June, April to June, and Year-to-Date Global Temperatures are Warmest on Record

Last month’s combined global land and ocean surface temperature made it the warmest June on record and the warmest on record averaged for any April-June and January-June periods, according to NOAA. Worldwide average land surface temperature was the warmest on record for June and the April-June period, and the second warmest on record for the year-to-date (January-June) period, behind 2007.

The monthly analysis from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, which is based on records going back to 1880, is part of the suite of climate services NOAA provides government, business and community leaders so they can make informed decisions.

It’s that last part that is truly important here… “NOAA provides government, business and community leaders so they can make informed decisions.”

All the more reason to “GET IT RIGHT!”   That is indeed a scary looking map… But, in what many will not read today, because it doesn’t meet the Mainstream Media’s filtered lens, one of the NOAA Weather Stations’ Official  Observers , Dr. Richard Keen has a bit of a problem with this report.

“NOAA’s calculation of the global temperature is based on their analysis of departures at 2000 or so grid points.  One of those points included my weather station at Coal Creek Canyon, Colorado, a location with no UHI or other troublesome influences.  The NOAA map of June anomalies for the US, based on an unknown selection of stations, has Coal Creek sitting on the +4F contour.”

“The Coal Creek record is long enough to calculate 30-year normals, and June 2010 comes in at +1.0F above normal.”

That’s 3 degrees less than the NOAA estimate for the same location, which is the difference between June being in the top 3 or being in the middle third.  Now, this is simply a spot check of one of NOAA’s 2000 grid points, but it leads to the question of how far off are the other grid points?

Dr. Richard Keen

That’s a spot check from a guy who’s data they are supposed to be using!  There is an immediate integrity problem with this data.  But, I’m sure you won’t be hearing this voice from the wilderness on CNN.

On a related note:

Joe D’Aleo, meterologist and co-founder of The Weather Channel, says,

“…too many of the weather stations NOAA uses are in warmer urban areas.

"The only reliable data set right now is satellite," D'Aleo says.

He says NASA satellite data shows the average temperature in June was 0.43 degrees higher than normal. NOAA says it was 1.22 degrees higher.”

Hmmm almost a 300% difference (error) in the data. who do we believe?  I guess the answer lies in what party you’re registered with.

Scientific method where are you when we need you?

That’s our story and we’re sticking with it… Unless we can come up with a better one.

This White House is amazing… In the whole fiasco that is Joe Sestak, the White House has concocted the following yarn to cover their all too exposed derriere.

The official line is now… after 5 months of being able to develop “the truth”…

“Yes, Bill Clinton, who has no legally binding authority to speak on the White House’s behalf, discussed an UNPAID Administration Job for representative Sestak, in exchange for his not running for Senate against the traitorous Arlen Spector, who had recently become a Democrat… Stating he did so so he would be “Re-elected.”

The formally coy Sestak now confirms this story as the accurate one.  Anyone care to guess why he previously wouldn’t volunteer any details about what job he was offered, and by who?

Hmmm… maybe… could it be, because after his gaffe of publically proclaiming he was all but bribed to not run, he had to wait to have his teleprompter updated with the White House’s damage control?  Especially now after he has won the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary?

Well its a good thing the American Press will do what is best for America and let this issue quietly drop, now that… y’know… the truth has been told.

Sniff… Sniff… anyone else smell a rat?

Another Flag Flap!

image An Army veteran in Wisconsin will be allowed to display an American flag until Memorial Day, but the symbol honoring his service in Iraq and Kosovo must come down next Tuesday…

…Dawn Price, 27, of Oshkosh, Wis., said she received a call from officials at Midwest Realty Management early Wednesday indicating that she and her husband, Charlie, would be allowed to continue flying the American flag they've had in their window for months through the holiday weekend. The couple had previously been told they had to remove the flag by Saturday or face eviction due to a company policy that bans the display of flags, banners and political or religious materials.

Officials at Midwest Realty Management, which manages Brookside Apartments, where the Prices live, did not return several messages seeking comment. In a statement to the Oshkosh Northwestern, company officials said the policy was established to provide a consistent living environment for all residents.

Oh… You mean there’s an element of Political Correctness involved?

"This policy was developed to insure that we are fair to everyone as we have many residents from diverse backgrounds," the statement read. "By having a blanket policy of neutrality we have found that we are less likely to offend anyone and the aesthetic qualities of our apartment communities are maintained."

I’ve had it!  Caution less than suitable language for kids follows!…

This is HORSESHIT!  If you are offended by my flying the AMERICAN Flag in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA then you are graciously invited to EAT SHIT AND image DIE!  Using the words “Diverse Backgrounds” is a euphemism for easily offended dirtbag-busy-bodies!   I’m disgusted with claims that flying the American Flag in the United States of America is an Aggressive or Hostile act directed at “Diverse Cultures”.

Expelling kids from a school because they wore American Flag shirts to school on ‘May Day--- the Communist Workers Holiday’ when plenty of Illegal Aliens wearing Mexican flags were all but catered to by school officials is equally reprehensible.  Again if you find the American Flag Offensive or Threatening… well hmmmm, why would that be?  Have you been urinating on America? and expect to get flushed by a patriot?

Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005, which states no condominium association, cooperative association, or residential real estate management association" may stop someone from flying the American flag. The law, however, does not apply to renters.

Stand Up America!  Be proud of who we are!  Yes we are diverse, that’s what makes us great, it is all the more reason to celebrate flying that flag, not cowering from a select few who have no honest concept for what it stands for or are threatened by the freedoms it represents!

All Americans should have the right to fly the American Flag, not just “Homeowners!”

So Why the Tax?

It is my understanding that in the event of ANY oil spill the bill for clean-up and all actions associated with the clean up are the financial responsibility of the Oil Company.  Right?

So why the need for this?  Other than to jack up consumer prices on oil and petroleum related products to the consumer so we all give up our cars for Wind Powered Solar Bicycles?

I’m even confused by the commentary in the article, the political windbags even contradict themselves (I know WOW! that’s a shocker!)

From the AP

Oil tax increase would help pay to clean up spills

WASHINGTON (AP) - Responding to the massive BP oil spill, Congress is getting ready to quadruple—to 32 cents a barrel—a tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

The tax is levied on oil produced in the U.S. or imported from foreign countries. The revenue goes to a fund managed by the Coast Guard to help pay to clean up spills in waterways, such as the Gulf of Mexico…

…Lawmakers want to increase the current 8-cent-a-barrel tax on oil to make sure there is enough money available to respond to oil spills. At least 6 million gallons of crude have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico since a drilling rig exploded April 20 off the Louisiana coast.

President Barack Obama and congressional leaders have said they expect BP to foot the bill for the cleanup.

"Taxpayers will not pick up the tab," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday.

So… Why the tax?

Again, we’re back to the idiot logic of… “We’re not taxing individuals, we’re taxing evil nasty corporations..”  Ignoring that simple fact that increased taxes on companies ALWAYS results in trickle down to the retail price.  Gotta cover the tax somehow.

Knock it off you Ass-Clowns!!!  Stop taxing the public and corporations just to make yourselves look like you are doing something for your salaries!

This is getting old…

Political correctness is a scourge that needs to be removed from our discourse.  Say what you mean, call a turd a turd and let your words fall like simple feces if need be.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg, (RINO) in an interview with that “of so critical'” Katie Couric actually said of the Times Square Bomber (before his identity was learned) that the perp was

“likely “homegrown” as he proceeded, in an interview excerpt run on Monday's CBS Evening News, to speculate it could have been placed by “somebody with a political agenda who doesn't like the health care bill or something.”

“Likely Homegrown”… “Someone who doesn’t like Healthcare”… yeah certainly not some Middle Eastern Extremist, who actually doesn’t like the United States and especially that there darling of the American Left, the evil George Bush guy… noooooo couldn’t be… wait, what?

Igor Djuric, a broker who showed Mr. Shahzad the 1,356-square-foot home he eventually bought, said he remembered that Mr. Shahzad was quiet about himself, but was openly critical of President Bush in the aftermath of the Iraq war.

"I didn't take it for anything, since a lot of people didn't like Bush," Mr. Djuric said, "but he was a little bit strong about expressing it."

Hmmm… odd.  So are you saying that Ms. Napolitano should uh… you know… maybe expand her horizons and begin looking at folks who didn’t agree with Bush too?  Not just them there natural born citizens of the US that may not agree with the current POTUS. No… what am I thinking, the only threat to Obama’s America could ONLY come from within…

Way to keep your eye on the ball.

Please do not get so caught up in your own personal politics to forget the there really are enemies of our cherished freedoms that will inflict what ever damage to innocent people to illicit fear and doubt among us.  The enemy of the United States is not a Republican or Democrat… It is demagoguery, and blindness to the realistic assessments, AKA Political Correctness.

More on Duke for those interested.

He pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud and tax evasion. Taxation Perspective

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones (or at least I am told this by many ‘o Liberal when I complain about over taxation) I pay taxes.  Which when twisted into some perverted justification simply means I earn over $45,000.00/yr… oh how fortunate I am!

April 9th is “Tax Freedom Day” here in the US… at least for those of us who pay all the required taxes (those not in the 53 percentile, your tax freedom day probably came sometime in February).  What is “Tax Freedom Day?”

Well if you took all the taxes you pay over the course of the year, and made it where you had to pay all of that before you collected one single dime for yourself, your family, your cat, dog, etc… You would have to work all the way to April 9th before you paid your share to the Government.  Only now can you can buy food, pay the rent, pay your insurance, pay your gas bill, phone bill, cable bill, cell phone bill, car payment, college tuition, medical expenses, buy that Valentines Day Card, etc… Up until now ALL you earn has gone to the Government!

Good thing this won’t last, as President Obama and the Democratic leadership in the Legislature are taking solid stances to reduce this burden on all of us, allowing us the freedoms necessary to pursue our happiness, raising our standards, allowing invention, imagination, and self reliance to bloom!  While still providing for our security as the 9th greatest Nation on the planet!  A beacon to all!

Wait… What?  Sorry wrong imagery, I got caught up in all the excitement of “The One”.

Jonah Goldberg points out the following:

…(and the top 10% of earners pay more than 70% of the income taxes).  If all of President Obama's plans are enacted, that percentage will increase. We are heading toward being a country where instead of the people deciding how much money the government should have, the government decides how much money the people should have.

Only after they passed "ObamaCare" did Democrats clarify that this was one of their motives. ObamaCare's appeal has less to do with saving money — which it won't do — and more to do with spreading the wealth around. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., recently admitted that alleviating the "maldistribution of income in America" from the haves to the have-nots is one of the legislation's real benefits.

It’s only going to get worse folks, until GOVERNMENT is reduced.  Limited Government is the way to the future.  If Government continues to increase in size and scope the bill will have to be paid… by far more of us than “Just the Rich”  but then you watch how may Democrat Legislators try to pass a bill that will directly impact their entitled classes (that’s their voters).  So then which turnips will you squeeze?

Don’t Tread On Me (Navy Jack) GIF

Many of bloggers who share my passion for the US Navy, and Individual Liberty have taken to proudly displaying the Navy Jack on their websites.

Me?  My Navy Jack flies from the front of my house (thanks Ken).  But I did want to also include it on Carmichael’s Position in some fashion.

Normally I am not a big fan of animated Gifs filling web pages, but in limited number some are entertaining.  I’ve been working on my Photoshop skills of late, and thought I’d take a crack at creating an animated GIF of a full glory Jack flying from a staff.

My 4th version is what you see there in the upper left side bar.  If any of you graphics experts out there have some recommendations for improvement, I am all ears.  It was actually fun to work on though.

If any of my compatriots would like to display this on their site, please feel free to do so (a mention to the author won’t be necessary, but not unappreciated either ;-) )

The attempts…

The fourth one includes a bit of shadowing and close to the best speed (although a bit more smoothing between frames couldn’t hurt… this is where I would seek y’all’s help).
