It from the French, they don't know what a spent cartridge looks like. Never fired, never used--dropped once.

I thought the French stopped with the whole war thing around the time muskets were being used. So then my question is, how in the heck would a French reporter know the difference fully intact bullet and spent round would look like?

Well this should be no surprise to anyone,look at the bright side of this,you still got two rounds left,all you have to do is chase down the little ol lady and get them back.
