In an Obama Administration?… How can this be?
Here’s the disturbing figures.
The current October Unemployment figures for all of the United States as reported by the BLS (Bureau of Labor and Statistics).
- October 2009 Unemployment Rate (All): 10.2%
- October 2009 Unemployment Rate (Blacks) 15.7%
- October 2009 Unemployment Rate (White) 9.5%
Year to date averages:
- YTD 2009 Unemployment Rate (All): 8.3%
- YTD 2009 Unemployment Rate (Blacks) 14.5%
- YTD 2009 Unemployment Rate (White) 9.1%
WHAT’S UP WITH THAT!
Tired of the racism and oppression as usual, Blacks overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 Election, Voting into office a “New Hope” for equality (if not preference) making up for long time negative trends in historically poor employment statistics among blacks. [from Pew Research]
According to the exit polls in last year's presidential election, the candidate preference of non-white voters was distinctly different from that of white voters. Nearly all (95%) black voters cast their ballot for Democrat Barack Obama. Among Latino voters, 67% voted for Obama while 31% voted for Republican John McCain. Among Asian voters, 62% supported Obama and 35% voted for McCain. In contrast, white voters supported McCain (55%) over Obama (43%).
That 95% figure express many ideas, from Blacks having the impression of disenfranchisement over the years and wanting to change that, to excitement over the opportunity to elect “the first ‘Black’ President, to possibly simple race dominating over substance. (Trust me, if 95% of the white population voted for a specific ‘White’ candidate over a opponent of color, there would be SCREAMS of racism non-stop… Hell, I’d be one screaming!).
What prompted me to write this story is an article I read in the Washington Post calling attention to the plight of young blacks in this troubled economy.
These days, 24-year-old Delonta Spriggs spends much of his time cooped up in his mother's one-bedroom apartment in Southwest Washington, the TV blaring soap operas hour after hour, trying to stay out of the streets and out of trouble, held captive by the economy. As a young black man, Spriggs belongs to a group that has been hit much harder than any other by unemployment.
Joblessness for 16-to-24-year-old black men has reached Great Depression proportions -- 34.5 percent in October, more than three times the rate for the general U.S. population. And last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that unemployment in the District, home to many young black men, rose to 11.9 percent from 11.4 percent, even as it stayed relatively stable in Virginia and Maryland.
His work history, Spriggs says, has consisted of dead-end jobs. About a year ago, he lost his job moving office furniture, and he hasn't been able to find steady work since. This summer he completed a construction apprenticeship program, he says, seeking a career so he could avoid repeating the mistake of selling drugs to support his 3-year-old daughter.
Certainly this is not an isolated case…
"I think we're labeled for not wanting to do nothing -- knuckleheads or hardheads," said Spriggs, whose first name is pronounced Dee-lon-tay. "But all of us ain't bad."
You know he is right. In this new era of Hope and Change he has every right to expect a job. It was all but promised to him by President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and all the other “Barack Straps” – My term for “Obama Supporters”.
It got me to looking… if things are this bad for Blacks under Barack… they must have been horrendous under those “Bastards” Bush & Cheney! Right?
Back to the BLM figures…
- Bush Era (2001-2008) Unemployment Rate (All): 5.3%
- Bush Era (2001-2008) Unemployment Rate (Blacks) 9.7%
- Bush Era (2001-2008) Unemployment Rate (White) 4.6%
- Age of Obama Unemployment Rate (All): 8.3%
- Age of Obama Unemployment Rate (Blacks) 14.5%
- Age of Obama Unemployment Rate (White) 9.1%
That can’t be right! We elected a man who knows! We’ve had a stimulus! There has not been a 9/11 attack! What that hell?
About that there “Stimulus”: I stopped by the blog “Blacks 4 America” to see if I could find some comments and opinion favored by Greg Jones and his readers.
Obama "now has a bill to sign that will create millions of good-paying jobs and help families and businesses stay afloat financially," said Sen. Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat who was a leading architect of the measure.
Uh… Yeah…
Actually, screw that… you can go anywhere and read how wonderful this Democrat Stimulus is and how it will save the economy… let’s just for the moment ignore the resulting “REALITY” shall we? The post that made me laugh hysterically till I cried was Barack’s speech at his signing of the Stimulus Package (AKA Porkulus Package)… In case you might… ya know… hold someone accountable for his rhetoric… Careful… accountability can be dangerous kids. (emphasis mine)
Today I have signed into law H.R. 1, the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009." The Act provides a direct fiscal boost to help lift our Nation from the greatest economic crisis in our lifetimes and lay the foundation for further growth. This recovery plan will help to save or create as many as three to four million jobs by the end of 2010, the vast majority of them in the private sector. It will make the most significant investment in America 's roads, bridges, mass transit, and other infrastructure since the construction of the interstate highway system. It will make investments to foster reform in education, double renewable energy while fostering efficiency in the use of our energy, and improve quality while bringing down costs in healthcare. Middle-class families will get tax cuts and the most vulnerable will get the largest increase in assistance in decades.
The situation we face could not be more serious. We have inherited an economic crisis as deep and as dire as any since the Great Depression. Economists from across the spectrum have warned that failure to act quickly would lead to the disappearance of millions of more jobs and national unemployment rates that could be in the double digits. I want to thank the Congress for coming together around this hard-fought compromise. No one policy or program will solve the challenges we face right now, nor will this crisis recede in a short period of time. However, with this Act we begin the process of restoring the economy and making America a stronger and more prosperous Nation.
My Administration will initiate new, far-reaching measures to help ensure that every dollar spent in this historic legislation is spent wisely and for its intended purpose. The Federal Government will be held to new standards of transparency and accountability. The legislation includes no earmarks. An oversight board will be charged with monitoring our progress as part of an unprecedented effort to root out waste and inefficiency. This board will be advised by experts -- not just Government experts, not just politicians, but also citizens with years of expertise in management, economics, and accounting.
So much depends on what we do at this moment. This is not about the future of my Administration. This effort is about the future of our families and communities, our economy and our country. We are going to move forward carefully and transparently and as effectively as possible because so much is on the line. That is what we have already begun to do -- drafting this plan with a level of openness for which the American people have asked and that this situation demands.
BARACK OBAMA
