It's a good speech. Seems like one main points, if not the only one, was that he believes the Left's goal is increasing government power. In my opinion that's wrong. I doubt anyone explicitly plans to make people dependent on the government. It's just that that's the type of solution they come up with. Economy is failing? Government can help! Need health care? Government can help! To exaggerate a bit, it's like the "if your only tool is a hammer" aphorism.

The conservative side does the same thing in a lot of cases, just replace "government" with "markets."

Assigning the wrong motives to people is counterproductive. It's hard to work with someone when you've misunderstood their goals, doubly so when doing so essentially demonizes them.
